The big Banyan tree is one of the most visited tourist place in Bangalore south near Kethohalli. Big Banyan tree is about 30 kms from Bangalore. Its around 400 years old and believed to be world’s 4th biggest Banyan tree spanning over 3 acres. Though the main trunk is perished , tree stands with its many acrial roots. Its botanical name is Ficus Benghalensis. If you are searching in google maps type Dodda Alda Mara,thats what they call it in Bangalore.
Instructions for tourists travelling to Bangalore Banyan tree:
1. Lots of monkeys around so beware of your belongings.
2. Do not .. Do not carve out names in the tree !!!!!
3. Preferably take your own vehicle.
You can travel to many other places while covering this while return. E.g. Savandurga, Ramangara, Ramdevra Betta etc. It will approx half an hour to see this tree and take 360 degree view.
