Savandurga hill near Bangalore is great place to trek. Savandurga is around 60kms away on west of Bangalore off Magadi road. The hill is among the largest monolith hills in Asia. Monolith means single rock all along. The highest point of Savandurga is 1226 m above mean sea level. River Arkavathi passes nearby through the Thippagondanahalli reservoir and on towards Manchanabele dam.
Awesome view of Manchanable dam can be seen from top of hill. Its one of the best places near Bangalore to trek or rock climb. With lots of boulders its rock climbers paradise. From children to adults all can reach top easily. Even though the trek path Savandurga hill is steep its not that dangerous as granite rock gives you awesome grip. Do not wear tight shooes or floaters as descend will take toll on your feet.
All trek path starts from Savandurga temple of Narsinha. There are lot of fruit, cold drinks and coco nut water stalls at the base. Parking is available for both two and four wheelers. Water is not available on top. Stay can made on first 2nd stop where good shelter is available. On the top most point there is nandi built. Be careful as there is not safety grills over there and drop is straight 1200 m drop.
You will find lots of creatures on the way to Savandurga, very rare eagle species, lots of reptiles and variety of birds. So keep your high zoom camera ready. You can also enjoy at Manchanable dam on the way. Very cool place to hangout. This trek will take around 3 hours to reach top and about 1 hour to descend. Trek path is marked with paint hence easy to locate.
